CRATAEGUS
2024
50x50
canvas, stucco, vinyl glue, white enamel,
mixed media
This work was created with a cotton cloth soaked in a mixture of stucco and vinyl glue, then worked and shaped on the canvas, and finally painted in multiple layers with white enamel. The visual reference is the hawthorn, or crataegus, which offers sinuous, harmonious yet sometimes irregular forms.
This landscape doesn't describe a specific place, but rather an inner vision, a memory that surfaces, an emotion that opens up as if it were a territory of the soul, seeking to evoke stillness, mystery, nostalgia, and respect.
A dialogue opens between the figurative and the abstract. The composition comes alive thanks to a vibrant three-dimensionality, favoring the effect of chiaroscuro and the play of light.
The white is rendered iridescent by the dynamic light that passes through it, creating an almost ethereal atmosphere where the reference to nature invites the viewer to lose themselves in a world of reflections and dancing shadows.
